| The tomato or as we call it on Valentine's Day the Love Apple (Pomme D'Amour) is considered by botanists to be a fruit, but in cooking we use it as a vegetable. Today the tomato seems indespensible, yet for centures after its' introduction into the New World it was thought to be toxic and was not accepted in the kitchen until the 19th century. There are now many varieties ranging in shape from long to round, in color from green to red and in size from the hefty American beefsteak down to the aptly named cherry tomato.
