    Ingredients:

      Filling:

      1 lb. pitted dates
      1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
      1/2 tsp. vanilla
      1/2 tsp. cinnamon
      1/4 tsp. ginger
      1/2 cup boiling water
      pinch of salt
      1 oz. Grand Marnier

      Pastry:

      1-1/2 cups flour
      1-1/2 cups quick cooking oats
      1/2 tsp. baking soda
      1/4 tsp. salt
      1 cup packed brown sugar
      3/4 cup butter

     Directions:

Filling: Place everything but Grand Marnier in glass bowl and let stand 8 hours  or overnight, stirring occasionally. When all the liquid has been absorbed and dates are  soft, turn mixture in the bowl. Add Grand Marnier and refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.
Pastry: Preheat oven to 375. Combine dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Work  in the butter until pastry is crumbly. Spread half the mixture into the bottom of a  9" square pan and pat down. Cover with date filling. Pat remaining pastry mixture on  top. Bake about 30 minutes. Cut into squares while still warm. Cool in pan before serving.
